While on a mini-vacation with family in York Beach Maine I decided to walk my dog Ziggy Stardust over to Nubble Lighthouse to sketch a new piece. After the walk back I painted into the night until this piece was finished. I painted in “The Great Wave” as an homage to “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” a woodblock print by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai, created in late 1831. I painted the rest of the landscape and Nubble Lighthouse in a more western traditional watercolor style.
